Ellwood H. May Environmental Park, commonly known as Maywood, is a 120-acre public park. Maywood is open daily year-round; the Ecology Center and trails are free for public use. Maywood offers natural history, environmental programs and activities, community events, recreational outings, summer camps, field trips, self-guided walks, cross country skiing and hiking trails, wildlife viewing, and a meeting place for environmental groups. The park is a popular destination for school groups, families, and individuals who love nature and the outdoors. Diverse
habitats at Maywood provide a haven for wildlife throughout the restored
prairie, Pigeon River corridor, spring-fed ponds, wetlands, coniferous and
deciduous forests. The Maple forest is tapped every March for its
sweet maple syrup, which is bottled and sold at the Ecology Center.
